The Ironman Maryland is one since 2014 annual in September or October Triathlon -Sportveranstaltung about the Ironman as distance (3.86 km swim, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) in Cambridge , Maryland in the United States.

organization

This event is organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) and the first event was on September 20, 2014. The venue is Cambridge (Maryland). Every year 30 starting places for the World Championships at Ironman Hawaii are awarded here.

The second event planned for October 3, 2015 had to be canceled due to weather conditions.

The Ironman Maryland has been held as a pure age group competition since 2015 - that is, the winners do not receive any prize money.

In 2016, the race had to be held without the swimming distance. 40 qualification points were awarded for the “Kona Pro Ranking” (qualification for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii ). On October 7, 2017, the race was held for the third time.

Route

  • The swimming course is two laps through the Choptank River at Great Marsh Park on the Delmarva Peninsula.
  • The 180 km bike course over two laps is flat but sensitive to wind. It runs through Dorchester County and into the Blackwater National Wildlife Reserve.
  • The running route comprises three laps and leads through the town and the surrounding area. The finish line is at the historic dock.

The course records are held by the two Americans DJ Snyder (2017: 8:51:11 hours) and Lauren Capone in the women (2014: 9:26:02 hours).
