The Ironman Italy since 2017 annually in September in Cervia on the Adriatic Sea on the Ironman discharged as distance (3.86 km swim, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) Triathlon - sporting event .

The "Ironman Italy Emilia-Romagna" is part of the Ironman world series of the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), a subsidiary of the Chinese Wanda Group .

The race had already been announced for 2016, but then had to be removed from the calendar for organizational reasons.
It was the first long-distance Ironman event in Italy. Cervia is located in northern Italy in the Emilia-Romagna region , about 20 km from Ravenna .
In addition, there has been the Ironman 70.3 Italy in Pescara in Italy over half the Ironman distance since 2011 .

Amateurs have the opportunity here in Cervia to qualify for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii , for which 40 qualification places are available. Professional triathletes competing for the US $ 40,000 prize money can qualify for the US $ 650,000 competition in Hawaii via the Kona Pro Ranking System (KPR). In Cervia, the winner and winner will each receive 2000 points, and those placed will receive a correspondingly reduced number of points.
For comparison: the winner in Hawaii receives 8,000 points, the winners in Frankfurt , Texas , Florianópolis , Cairns and Port Elizabeth each receive 4,000, and in the other Ironman races either 1,000 or 2,000 points.

At the first edition of 2017, the German Andreas Dreitz won in 8:03:27 h. At the last event on September 21, 2019, new course records were set here for both men and women.

Route

  • The swimming course in the Adriatic Sea goes over two different laps with a total of 3.86 km. After about 2.2 km, swimming is interrupted by a short shore leave (“Australian Exit”).
  • The bike distance of 180.2 km is covered over two laps.
  • The final marathon runs over three laps on a flat course.
