Cameron Wurf (born August 3, 1983 in Hobart ) is an Australian triathlete and cyclist . As a triathlete, he was the Ironman winner. He is on the best list of Australian triathletes on the Ironman distance . He used to be an active rower .

Career

Rowing until 2007

Cameron Wurf took part in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens as a rower . Together with George Jelbart , he finished 16th in the lightweight double scull .

Cycling

The Tasmanian started his career in international cycling in 2007 with the US Continental Team Priority Health-Bissell . In this he won the time trial at the Oceania Championships. He was also successful in the French individual time trial Chrono Champenois . Shortly afterwards he started at the road world championships in Stuttgart in the time trial competition where he finished 31st.

In 2008 Wurf went to Europe and hired the Italian professional Continental Team Cinelli-OPD . The move to the Austrian Volksbank team took place in May .

Triathlon since 2015

Since 2015 he has been competing in the Ironman long distance triathlon (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running). In April 2017 he started at Ironman South Africa , where he finished eleventh. In September 2017, the then 34-year-old won the Ironman Wales and thus achieved his first Ironman victory. In May 2019 he won the Ironman Australia . At the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) in October 2019, he finished fifth as the best Australian.

Return to cycling

For the 2020 season, Wurf received a contract with the UCI WorldTeam Ineos .
