Heather Wurtele (* 12. July 1979 in Victoria , British Columbia as Heather Danforth ) is a Canadian triathlete . She is two-time national champion in the middle distance (2015, 2016) and seven-time Ironman winner (2008-2019).

Career

Heather Wurtele played volleyball in her youth, where she was able to benefit from her height at 1.86 meters.

Triathlon since 2004

She started triathlon in 2004 and has been a professional since 2007. Her husband Trevor Wurtele is also a professional triathlete. She has been part of the First Endurance Team since 2004 .

In 2008 she won the long distance triathlon, the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling, 42.195 km running), in the Ironman Coeur d'Alene and in May 2010 she was able to host the first Ironman St. George win.

At the Ironman Hawaii in 2011, she achieved her best placement with eighth place.

In June 2014 she was able to win the Ironman Coeur d'Alene for the third time - and with it her sixth Ironman race.

Second Ironman 70.3 World Championships 2015

In August 2015 she came second in the middle distance of the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in the Austrian state of Salzburg as part of the Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun .

In May 2016, Wurtele won the title for the second time after 2015 at the North American Championships at Ironman 70.3 St. George in Utah. In September she finished third at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Australia.

In August 2017, she finished third at the ITU World Championships in the long-distance triathlon in Penticton (3 km swimming, 120 km cycling and 30 km running). In March 2019, the 39-year-old won the Ironman 70.3 Campeche in Mexico for the third time in a row .

Heather Wurtele lives in Kelowna .
