Kate Major (born December 3, 1977 ) is a former Australian squash player and triathlete .

Career

Kate Major grew up with her twin sister Emma and her older brother Michael .

Squash until 1999

Kate Major played squash professionally between 1995 and 1999. She had previously won three national junior titles and was part of the Australian junior national team at the 1995 World Cup .

From 1997 to 1999 she was three times in a row in the main draw of the World Cup, but never got past the first round. She won a total of four titles on the WSA World Tour (the women's squash tournament series organized by the WSA players' association).
Kate Major reached her highest ranking in the world rankings with rank 20 in January 1999. In 1999 she enrolled at the university.

Professional triathlete since 2003

Inspired by her older brother Michael , she also wanted to compete in a triathlon and she finished second in her age group in her first race.
At the Ironman Hawaii in October 2002, the 24-year-old achieved the best time for amateurs in the 18-24 age group.

Kate Major started as a professional athlete in 2003 and was Australian champion and runner-up at Ironman Australia in her first year . Since 2004 she lived and trained in San Diego . In July 2004 she won the Ironman USA with a new course record . She took third place three times at the Ironman World Championships ( Ironman Hawaii ) in 2004, 2005 and 2007.

Kate Major was trained by Greg Welch - one of the best Australian triathletes of the 1990s.

She is married to Jeffrey Young. In 2013 their daughter was born and she ended her active career. Kate Major now lives in San Francisco .
