Ironman 70.3 Cozumel has been the name of a triathlon sporting event taking place on the Mexican island of Cozumel since 2012, covering a distance of 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running. From 2006 to 2011 this was organized over the same distances under the name Ironman 70.3 Cancún .
The triathlon is organized by the World Triathlon Corporation , a subsidiary of the Chinese Dalian Wanda Group , as part of its Ironman 70.3 triathlon series. The trademark Ironman 70.3 is derived from the total distance of the route of 70.3 miles (corresponding to 113 km).
The race is held annually in September or October. The venue was moved from Cancún to Cozumel Island in 2012 . The Ironman 70.3 Cozumel offers 50 starting places for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
Since 2009, the Ironman Cozumel over the long distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) has taken place here every November .
Route
Cozumel is one of the eastern coast of the Mexican peninsula of Yucatán offshore island and swimming passes a dip in the Caribbean Sea. The cycling and running distance also go over a circuit that has to be completed once.
The German Andreas Böcherer has already won the race three times and he has held the course record with 3:48:10 hours since 2015. In the women's category, the Australian Liz Blatchford has held the course record of 4:14:31 hours since 2012.
