Annabel Claire Luxford (born March 2, 1982 in Sydney ) is a former Australian triathlete . She is triathlon world champion U23 (2004), national champion in the middle distance (2014) and winner of the Ironman 70.3 European Championships (2017).

Career

Annabel Luxford started her first triathlon when she was nine. In 1999 she started as a 17-year-old at the World Championships in the youth class and finished fourth in Canada.

U23 world champion triathlon 2004

In May 2004 she became the U23 triathlon world champion in Madeira.

In 2005 she became vice world champion in the elite class in Japan on the short distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) and this year she was able to win the Triathlon World Cup . At the Commonwealth Games in March 2006, she was the second best Australian, fifth behind the winner Emma Snowsill . But later she had to pause the 2006 season after a foot injury in April.

In 2012 she started in the middle distance for the first time and in June 2013 she finished third in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Las Vegas (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running).

In November 2014 she became Australian champion at half the Ironman distance in Mandurah on the west coast.

Ironman distance since 2015

At her first start on the Ironman distance in March 2015, she finished sixth in Australia and in October she was twelfth at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships). At Ironman South Africa , she finished fifth in April 2016. She qualified again for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii, but could not finish the race in October.

Winner Ironman 70.3 European Championships 2017

She started the 2017 season in February with a win at Ironman 70.3 Geelong. In June she won the Ironman 70.3 European Championships in Denmark.

In February 2018, she won the Challenge Wanaka in the triathlon middle distance . In July, the then 36-year-old finished third at the ITU World Championship on the long distance in Denmark and only two weeks later also third at Ironman Switzerland .

Annabel Luxford lives in Brisbane . Her nickname is Bella . Annabel Luxford has not appeared internationally since 2018.
