Liz (Elizabeth) Blatchford (born February 5, 1980 in Wilmslow, United Kingdom) is a former triathlete starting for Australia and multiple Ironman winner (2013, 2014, 2015).

Career

Liz Blatchford was born in north-west England and grew up in Australia until she was twenty. As a child, she was active in the swimming club and started her first triathlon at the age of 14. She is married to Glen Murray , a former triathlete from Australia.

In 2000 she was eighth in the Junior World Triathlon Championship. At the age of 21, Liz Blatchford decided to start as a professional while studying in Queensland. In Japan, she was also eighth in the World Championships in 2005 among the professionals in the "Elite" class.

3rd place Ironman Hawaii 2013

In 2012 she was not nominated by the British Triathlon Federation for the Olympic Summer Games and she decided to switch to the long distance. In June 2013 she started on the Ironman distance for the first time and she was able to win her first race with the Ironman Cairns (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and thus qualify for the Ironman World Championships. In October she finished third at the Ironman Hawaii .

In 2014 she was able to qualify for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii in October, where she finished tenth as the second fastest Australian behind Mirinda Carfrae . In France she started in the Grand Prix de Triathlon for the TC Chateauroux 36 team .

3rd place Ironman Hawaii 2015

In October 2015 she was again third after 2013 at the Ironman Hawaii. After starting at Ironman 70.3 Vietnam, she announced her pregnancy in May 2016 and her daughter was born in 2017.

In May 2018 she won the Ironman 70.3 Busselton , which had to be held as a duathlon at short notice due to the bad weather. She was trained by Brett Sutton , Mat Steinmetz (long distance) and Ben Bright and started for the BMC Vifit Pro Triathlon Team until 2018 . After the Ironman Hawaii 2018, she declared her active career over.

Blatchford lives in Loughborough .
