Kim Loeffler (* 25. August 1972 as Kim Liljeblad ) is a former American triathlete .

Career

Kim Liljeblad grew up with her four siblings (two brothers, her twin sister Kelly and an older sister) in Long Island . As a child, she played roller hockey , baseball, and rode dirt bikes . In high school and during her time at the University of Massachusetts , she did cross-country skiing and athletics .

After college, she trained with the Boston Athletic Association with the aim of qualifying for the Olympic Games in the marathon . When, after two serious knee injuries, she watched a friend at a triathlon in the region within ten months, she decided to start triathlons as well. The experience of coping with large training volumes without injury due to the variability of the training in comparison to marathon training, made her decide to start a career as a professional triathlete in 2001. This was made more difficult, however, by the fact that she had just moved to Vermont with her husband, had started her own business there and worked full-time in addition to training. Over time, however, she managed to withdraw from the business and concentrate fully on the triathlon.

She achieved her best placement at Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) in 2005 with eighth place.

Kim Loeffler was trained by Lance Watson, who u. a. also looks after Chris Lieto and Lisa Bentley . Her twin sister Kelly Liljeblad is also a successful triathlete and marathon runner. She lives in Colchester with her husband Brian Loeffler .

Shortly before the birth of her child in July 2013, she retired from competitive sports and has been a cross-country and triathlon trainer ever since.
