1997 World Women's Squash Championship

The 13th Women Squash World Cup ( English 1997 Women's World Open Squash Championship ) was held from 13 to 19 October 1997 in Sydney , Australia , instead. Sydney was the venue for the tournament for the second time since 1990 . The total prize pool was $ 75,000.

The defending champion was Sarah Fitz-Gerald , who also won the world championship this year. In the final she met her compatriot Michelle Martin , who has already been world champion three times. Fitz-Gerald prevailed 9: 5, 5: 9, 6: 9, 9: 2 and 9: 3 against Martin and won her second world title.

All eight players who reached the quarter-finals were already in the last eight last year . Sabine Schöne reached the quarter-finals at a World Cup for the third and last time.
