The defending champion was Sarah Fitz-Gerald , who also won the world championship this year. In the final she met her compatriot Michelle Martin , who has already been world champion three times. Fitz-Gerald prevailed 9: 5, 5: 9, 6: 9, 9: 2 and 9: 3 against Martin and won her second world title.
All eight players who reached the quarter-finals were already in the last eight last year . Sabine Schöne reached the quarter-finals at a World Cup for the third and last time.
