Suzanne Horner (* 23. February 1963 in Wakefield as Suzanne Burgess ) is a former English squash player .

Career

Suzanne Horner was active on the WSA World Tour from the mid-1980s to 2003 and won 22 titles in a total of 30 finals. She achieved her best position in the world rankings with second place in September 1994.

With the English national team , she won six titles at European Championships from 1987 to 1999 . With the national team she took part in the World Cup in 1989 , 1990 , 1994 , 1996 and 1998 . In all participations she reached the final with the team, in all finals Australia was the opponent. In 1989 Horner contributed a point to the 3-0 victory with a five-set win against Danielle Drady , while in 1990 she was also defeated by Michelle Martin in five sets . The team won the game 2-1. In 1994 she was defeated again by Martin, the game was lost 3-0 to Australia. Australia also won the game in 1996 and 1998: in 1996 she was not used in the final, in 1998 she played the insignificant third singles against Sarah Fitz-Gerald , which she lost in two sets, due to Australia's 2-0 lead .

Between 1987 and 2001 Suzanne Horner was in the main field of the individual world championships 13 times in a row. She reached the quarterfinals nine times, as well as the semi-finals in 1994 and 1998 . Both times she was defeated by Michelle Martin in three sets. She took part in the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and was eliminated from singles in the quarterfinals against Sarah Fitz-Gerald. In mixed she won the silver medal with Simon Parke after losing to Michelle Martin and Craig Rowland in the final . In 1994 and 1996 she became British champion.
