Women's Squash World Team Championship 1996

The 10th Women World Team Championship ( English 1996 Women's World Team Squash Championships ) was held from 14 to 19 October 1996 in Petaling Jaya , Malaysia instead. A total of 20 teams took part. Italy made its debut at a world championship.

Defending champions Australia won the new edition of the final from last year against England 2-1. This was the fifth world championship title for Australia. The same teams met in the game for third place as in 1994. Again South Africa defeated New Zealand in the final game . Germany took 5th place, Switzerland did not take part.

mode

The participating teams were drawn into five groups according to their results from the last competition for the preliminary round. Round-robin mode was used within the groups . The three best-placed teams in groups A and B and the winners of groups C and D advanced to the quarter-finals. The bottom of the group in groups A and B, the runners-up and thirds in groups C and D and the two best-placed teams in group E played for places 9 to 16. The bottom of groups in groups C and D as well as the third and fourth teams in group E. played for places 17 to 20.

All teams consisted of a minimum of three and a maximum of four players who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per encounter. A team won if its players could win two of the individual games. The order in which the individual games were played was independent of the order in which the players entered.
