Women's Squash World Team Championship 1979

The first women's World Team Championship ( English 1979 Women's World Team Squash Championships ) was held from 15 to 20 March 1979 for Birmingham in the UK instead. A total of six teams took part.

The UK team, made up of Sue Cogswell , Angela Smith , Teresa Lawes , Barbara Diggens , Jayne Ashton and Lesley Moore , won all of the games and became the first ever world champion in the history of squash . Australia came in second , ahead of Ireland , Canada , Sweden and the United States .

The participating teams competed in a common group. The group played in round robin mode , and the top team received the title of world champion.

All teams consisted of a minimum of three and a maximum of four players who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per encounter. A team won if its players could win two of the individual games. The order in which the individual games were played was independent of the order in which the players entered.
