mode

The participating teams were drawn into four groups according to their results from the last event. Round-robin mode was used within the groups . The two best-placed teams in each group advanced to the quarter-finals, which were played in the knockout system . The group third and fourth of each group played for places 9 to 16, also in a knockout system. The three fifths in the group played from places 17 to 19 in round robin mode.

All teams consisted of a minimum of three and a maximum of four players who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per encounter. A team won if its players could win two of the individual games. The order in which the individual games were played was independent of the order in which the players entered.
