history

Men's

India took part in the first edition of the World Cup in 1967 and finished the tournament in fifth place, the best result to date. Participations followed in 1971 , 1976 and 1979 , before India decided not to participate for a long time. It was not until 1995 that the Indian team was back in the field and achieved 28th place, the worst result so far. The next participation took place in 2005 . India reached the quarter-finals for the first time in 2007 , which they also did in 2011 , 2013 and 2017 .

India celebrated greater successes at the Asian Championships . At the first edition in 1981, the team immediately reached the final, which they lost to Pakistan . Except for 1998, 1992 and 1996 India reached at least the semi-finals in every participation. India took third and fourth place six times each. The second final entry was not made until 2012. In the final, Pakistan was again the stronger team.

The Indian team has also been very successful at the Asian Games . In 2010 she won the bronze medal and in 2014 the gold medal.
