Squash team world championship 1987

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 11th World Team Championship for Men ( English 1987 Men's World Team Squash Championships ) held from 17 to 31 October 1987 in London in the UK instead. A total of 27 teams took part, which was a new record. With Switzerland , Denmark and the first team from South America, Brazil , three teams made their debut at a World Cup.

The defending champion was Pakistan , which defended its title as in the previous World Championships. In the final, the Pakistani team defeated New Zealand again and secured their fifth team title. England defeated Australia in the game for third place, in return for their loss in the same game at the 1985 tournament . The team from the Federal Republic of Germany took 14th place. Switzerland finished 18th on its debut.

mode

The participating teams competed in four groups. The group played in round robin mode , and the two best-placed teams advanced to the quarter-finals. This was carried out in the knockout system . All places were played out. For the first time in the history of the team championship, a qualification was held in advance. Here four teams competed in two groups. The group winners qualified directly for the world championship. The runners-up and thirds in the group played two more qualifying places in a play-off round.

All teams consisted of a minimum of three and a maximum of four players who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per encounter. A team won if its players could win two of the individual games. The order in which the individual games were played was independent of the order in which the players entered.
