Jansher Khan ( Urdu جان شیر خان; Born June 15, 1969 in Peshawar ) is a retired Pakistani squash player . He won the world championship eight times and was world number one for years.

Career

Squash was a tradition in Jansher Khan's family, his brother Mohibullah was runner-up in 1976. When Jansher became Junior World Champion in 1986, he also started his professional career. During the 1980s, Jansher and Jahangir Khan , with whom Jansher is not closely related, were the two dominant players on the PSA Tour . The rivalry between the two players was defining for this era: The two met a total of 37 times in tournaments, of which Jansher emerged as the winner 19 times. After Jahangir retired in the early 1990s, Jansher dominated the PSA Tour alone.

Already in 1987 Jansher won his first world title when he Chris Dittmar defeated in the final. In the following year he was defeated by Jahangir in the final in three sets. This was followed by two further titles in 1989 and 1990 , again with final victories over Chris Dittmar. From 1992 to 1996 , Jansher Khan won five consecutive world titles. First again against Chris Dittmar, then against Jahangir Khan and against Peter Marshall , Del Harris and Rodney Eyles . He won all five finals in four sets. He renounced 1997 on the defense of his title, since the World Cup was held in Malaysia . Jansher had separated from his Malaysian wife and, according to a decision by a Malaysian court, Jansher was obliged to pay alimony for his son Kamran Khan . Like his father, he also became a professional player.

With the Pakistani national team he took part in world championships in 1987 , 1989 , 1991 , 1993 and 1995 . In 1987 and 1993 he became world champion with her. Between 1992 and 1997 he also won the British Open six times in a row. He won the PSA Super Series in 1992/93 , 1993/94 , 1996/97 and 1997/98 .

In 2001, Jansher Khan, who last met in 1999, officially announced his resignation due to persistent injuries. He won 99 professional titles during his career and was in 19 other finals, for a total of six years he was world number one. In 2001 he was inducted into the World Squash Hall of Fame . In 2010 he was appointed Pakistani national coach.
