Jahangir Khan ( Urdu جهانگير خان; * December 10, 1963 in Karachi ) is a former Pakistani squash player who was one of the best players in the world in the 1980s. From 2002 to 2008 he was President of the World Squash Federation (WSF).
Career
Jahangir Khan started playing squash at an early age. His father Roshan Khan , the 1957 British Open winner, was also his first coach. His brother Torsam , who had also been a squash player until his death at the age of 33, later took over this task. After Torsam's death, Khan's cousin Rehmat Khan became his coach for the remainder of his career. At the age of 15, Khan became the youngest amateur world champion to date and proved his exceptional talent when he won the active world title against Australian Geoff Hunt in 1981 , at the age of just 17 . After this win, he remained unbeaten in 555 games for five years, six months and one day, which is a world record to this day . During his career he won 61 titles and stood in 19 other finals. He won the British Open ten times in a row and the US Open three times . With the Pakistani national team , he won five world championships. After retiring as an active squash player in 1993, he took over the office of Vice President of the WSF in 1998. On October 26, 2002, he was appointed president, before being replaced by N. Ramachandran from India in October 2008 . Jahangir Khan was then appointed honorary president. In 1993 he was inducted into the World Squash Hall of Fame .
Jahangir Khan is married and has two children. The British songwriter Natasha Khan , daughter of Rehmat Khan, is his cousin.
