Ali Farag (born April 22, 1992 in Cairo ) is an Egyptian squash player . He won the world championship in 2018/19 .
Career
Ali Farag started his professional career in 2009 and has won 19 tournaments on the PSA World Tour so far . He achieved his highest position in the world rankings with second place in April 2018. Even during his time with the juniors, he celebrated greater successes. In 2010 he was in the final of the Junior World Championship , which he lost to Amr Khaled Khalifa with 11: 8, 9:11, 10:12 and 7:11. In 2017 he took part in the World Cup with the Egyptian national team and won the title with them. In the final against England he decided the game prematurely in favor of Egypt with his win against James Willstrop . In 2018 and 2019 he was Egyptian national champion. With the final victory over Mohamed Elshorbagy at the JP Morgan Tournament of Champions 2019 , Farag secured the lead in the world rankings for the first time on March 1, 2019 . On March 3, he became world champion after a 3-1 final victory over Tarek Momen . At the end of 2019 he defended the title at the World Championships with the Egyptian national team.
He graduated from Harvard with a degree in mechanical engineering in May 2014 . For Harvard he was also active and very successful in college sports. He has been married to squash player Nour El Tayeb since June 28, 2016 .
