The Egyptian squash national team is the entirety of the cadres of the Egyptian squash federation. In it you will find Egyptian athletes who represent their country in both individual and team competitions nationally and internationally in squash .

history

Men's

Egypt first took part in a world championship in 1969 . In the tournament, the team remained without a win and finished the tournament in sixth and thus last place. In 1971 the team improved to fourth place. As at the first event in 1967 , Egypt decided not to participate in 1973 - the last time to date. This was followed by two third places in 1977 and 1981 , the first time a world championship took place in their own country in Cairo in 1985 . For the first time, the team missed the semi-finals and was only fifth. It was not until 1995 , when the tournament was held in Cairo for the second time, that Egypt achieved a place on the podium again with third place.

Four years later, again in Cairo, the team became world champions for the first time . The team headed by Ahmed Barada , Amr Shabana , Omar Elborolossy and Amir Wagih defeated in the final Wales 3: 0th In 2001 Egypt reached the final again as defending champions, but lost it 3-0 to hosts Australia . In addition to Shabana and Elborolossy, Mohammed Abbas and Karim Darwish were also in the squad. In Vienna 2003 the team lost again to Australia, this time in the semifinals. She finished the tournament in fourth place. Egypt reached the third final at the 2005 World Cup in Islamabad . The game against England was lost 2-0 after Amr Shabana and Mohammed Abbas were both defeated by their opponents. Other team members were Karim Darwish and Wael El Hindi . As in 2003, Egypt was eliminated in the 2007 semi-finals against Australia and finished fourth. Led by Karim Darwish, the team defeated England 2-1 in the 2009 final . Although Darwish initially lost his game, the successes of Ramy Ashour and then Amr Shabana secured the second title win after 1999. Fourth player was Wael El Hindi. In 2011 they successfully defended their title against England in the final in Paderborn . Ramy Ashour initially secured the lead before his brother Hisham Mohd Ashour lost his game. Karim Darwish finally decided the game in favor of Egypt with a 3-1 win. Mohamed Elshorbagy was the fourth player to be part of the team. For the third time in a row, Egypt and England faced each other in the final of the 2013 World Cup . This time Egypt lost to the English team with 1: 2. Only Ramy Ashour won his game, while Karim Darwish and Tarek Momen lost. Omar Mosaad was not used in the final . In 2017 Egypt reached the final in Marseille as the top seeded team , in which England were again the opponents. Karim Abdel Gawad put the team in the lead with a win against Nick Matthew , after which Ali Farag ensured the early title win with a 3-0 win over James Willstrop . The game between Marwan Elshorbagy and Daryl Selby was no longer played, and Ramy Ashour was also the captain in the squad. Egypt did not give up a single game in the course of the tournament. In 2019 , he successfully defended his title in Washington, DC . After four wins, the team met England again in the final and prevailed 2-0. Karim Abdel Gawad won the opening game 3-2 against Declan James , before Ali Farag won against Adrian Waller for an early win thanks to a 3-1 win. In addition to Gawad and Farag, Tarek Momen and Mohamed Abouelghar were part of the squad.

Trainer

When the title was won in 1999, Magdi Saad as was the main coach. From 2004 to 2013 Amir Wagih was the coach of the Egyptian national team. Under him, the title wins in 2009 and 2011. He was replaced on November 1, 2013 by Omar Elborolossy . Amr Shabana took over from Elborolossy after retiring in August 2015.
