Squash World Team Championship 2009

The 22nd World Team Championship for Men ( English 2009 Men's World Team Squash Championships ) was held from September 27 to October 3, 2009 in Odense , Denmark instead. A total of 28 teams competed.

The Egyptian team won the title for the first time since 1999. Karim Darwish , Amr Shabana , Ramy Ashour and Wael El Hindi did not lose a single game until the final . In the group stage they defeated Kuwait , Hong Kong and Serbia , in the final round Germany , Canada and Australia . The first game was only lost in the final against France when Karim Darwish lost to Grégory Gaultier with 11: 8, 5:11, 8:11 and 2:11 . Ramy Ashour managed to equalize with a safe 11: 3, 11: 4 and 11: 5 against Renan Lavigne , before Amr Shabana made it clear that Egypt won the title. In the decisive game he defeated Thierry Lincou with 11: 6, 7:11, 12:10 and 12:10. The French team beat Ireland and Denmark in the group stage without losing a game, as well as against the Netherlands and South Africa in the final round . In the semifinals, France prevailed somewhat surprisingly against defending champions England . Adrian Grant gave England the lead against Renan Lavigne, but James Willstrop and Peter Barker lost 3-1 to Grégory Gaultier and Thierry Lincou. Third was the Australian team led by David Palmer , Stewart Boswell , Cameron Pilley and Aaron Frankcomb , who beat England 2-1 in the game for third place.

The German team around Simon Rösner , Jens Schoor , Stefan Leifels and Raphael Kandra finished eleventh in the end. Austria around Aqeel Rehman , Jakob Dirnberger , Stefan Brauneis and Christian Coufal . A Swiss team did not take part in this World Cup.

mode

The participating teams were drawn into eight groups according to their placement, the group size varied between three and four teams. Within the groups, the game was played in round robin mode ; the two best-placed teams reached the final round, which was played in the knockout system . At the tournament all places were played out.

All teams consisted of a minimum of three and a maximum of five players who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per encounter. A team won if its players could win two of the individual games. The order in which the individual games were played was independent of the order in which the players entered.
