Raphael Kandra (born October 29, 1990 in Fürth ) is a German squash player .

Career

Raphael Kandra started his professional career in 2009 and has so far won 13 titles on the PSA World Tour . He was also in seven other finals. He achieved his best placement in the world rankings with 13th place in May 2019. On the national level, Raphael Kandra made it into the final of the German championship for the first time in 2013, but failed there with 1: 3 to Simon Rösner . In 2018 he won the title for the first time after beating Valentin Rapp in the final . In the following year and also in 2020 he defended his title against Rapp. He is currently in the German national team and plays in the 1st Squash Bundesliga for Paderborner SC . With the German national team he took part in world championships in 2009 , 2011 , 2013 , 2017 and 2019 . In 2018 he was the first German to reach the semi-finals of the British Open . After several third places, Kandra became the first German squash player to become European champion in 2019 after beating Borja Golán in the final .

As a sports soldier, Raphael Kandra is a member of the Bundeswehr's sports promotion group with the rank of sergeant . He has been married to Sina Wall , who is also a squash player, since July 2017 .
