The winner of the last event in 2017 was Egypt , whose team started the tournament in top position. In a re-edition of the final from 2017, the Egyptian team prevailed again against England . In the first game, Karim Abdel Gawad defeated Declan James in five sets , before Ali Farag made Egypt's fifth title win prematurely with a 3-1 win over Adrian Waller .
The participating teams were drawn into six groups according to their placement, the group size was three or four teams. The groups played in round robin mode , and the two best-placed teams reached the final round, which was played in a knockout system . At the tournament all places were played out.
All teams consisted of a minimum of three and a maximum of four players who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per encounter. A team won if its players could win two of the individual games. The order in which the individual games were played was independent of the order in which the players entered.
