Squash World Team Championship 2019

The 26th World Team Championship for Men ( English 2019 Men's World Team Squash Championship ) was held from 15 to 21 December 2019 in Washington, DC in the United States instead. The tournament was organized by the US Squash Federation US Squash and the World Squash Federation . A total of 23 teams competed.

The winner of the last event in 2017 was Egypt , whose team started the tournament in top position. In a re-edition of the final from 2017, the Egyptian team prevailed again against England . In the first game, Karim Abdel Gawad defeated Declan James in five sets , before Ali Farag made Egypt's fifth title win prematurely with a 3-1 win over Adrian Waller .

The German team, consisting of Simon Rösner , Raphael Kandra , Valentin Rapp and Rudi Rohrmüller , was placed in fifth place and finished the tournament in sixth place. Switzerland entered the tournament with Dimitri Steinmann , Reiko Peter , Robin Gadola and Cédric Kuchen in 15th position and finished twelfth, their best result at a world championship to date.

mode

The participating teams were drawn into six groups according to their placement, the group size was three or four teams. The groups played in round robin mode , and the two best-placed teams reached the final round, which was played in a knockout system . At the tournament all places were played out.

All teams consisted of a minimum of three and a maximum of four players who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per encounter. A team won if its players could win two of the individual games. The order in which the individual games were played was independent of the order in which the players entered.

A total of 23 teams from the five continental federations competed: Europe , Asia , America , Africa and Oceania .
