Participations followed in 1969 and 1973 , before South Africa decided not to participate for a long time. The team reached third place both times, the best result to date. It was not until 1993 that the South African team was back in the field and achieved 13th place, the best possible result due to the mode. Since then, South Africa has always reached the last sixteen or quarter-finals, with two places five being the best and 19th place 2019 being the weakest.
