history

Men's

France first took part in a world championship in 1981 . With three wins and four losses, she finished 17th on her debut. It was also France's worst performance at a World Cup. In 1983 the team did not take part, but from the following final round in 1985 they were consistently there as a participant. In 1999 she got beyond the group stage for the first time and reached the quarter-finals. The team achieved their best result in 2003 when they reached the finals. In the final, Thierry Lincou , Grégory Gaultier , Renan Lavigne and Jean-Michel Arcucci lost 3-0 to Australia . France finished third in the 2005 and 2007 tournaments before reaching the final for the second time in 2009 . Against Egypt , Grégory Gaultier, Thierry Lincou, Renan Lavigne and Julien Balbo lost 2-1. This was followed by fourth place in 2011 and third place at the first World Cup in his own country in 2013 .

Since 1975 France has also successfully participated in the European Championships , which have been held annually since 1973. In 1993 the team reached the semifinals for the first time and finished the tournament in third place. Between 2000 and 2014 France reached the final every time except 2007 , in which England was always victorious. The first title win came in 2015 , as well as again in 2017 and 2018 , each against England.
