Grégory Gaultier (born December 23, 1982 in Épinal , Vosges ) is a French squash player .

Career

Grégory Gaultier has been playing on the PSA World Tour since 2000 and has won 40 titles on it so far. Alongside Thierry Lincou, he is the second Frenchman to ever top the squash world rankings. In November 2009 he made the leap to the top, but lost this position again in December of the same year. At world championships Gaultier was denied the title for a long time: he was defeated four times against different opponents in a world championship final. 2006 against David Palmer , 2007 against Amr Shabana and 2011 and 2013 against Nick Matthew . It wasn't until 2015 that he became world champion for the first time with a final victory over Omar Mosaad .

Gaultier is the record winner at European level. Between 2004 and 2011, Gaultier was singles in every final of the European championships that have been held since 2004 . Of these eight finals, Gaultier won all except 2009 and 2010, when he had to give up injured against his compatriot Lincou. After he could not compete due to injury in 2012, he won his seventh title in 2013. He remained victorious in 2014 and 2015 as well. In 2007 he won the British Open against Lincou for the first time and repeated this success in 2014 and 2017 .

With the French national team he took part in world championships in 1999 , 2001 , 2003 , 2005 , 2007 , 2009 , 2011 , 2013 , 2017 and 2019 . In 2003 and 2009 he was runner-up with them. With this he also became European champion in 2015 , 2017 and 2018 .

At the World Games 2013 he won the gold medal after beating Simon Rösner in the final . In the 2013/14 season he was at the top of the world rankings for a total of eight months before losing it to Mohamed Elshorbagy . After winning the World Cup in 2015, he returned to the top position. At the PSA World Series Finals 2015/16 , he won his third title in this tournament. Already in 2008 and 2009 he won the tournament.

Grégory Gaultier is married and has two sons.
