Allam British Open 2017

The Allam British Open 2017 took place from March 19-26, 2017 in Kingston upon Hull , United Kingdom . The venues were the Airco Arena and the University of Hull . The men's squash tournament was part of the PSA World Tour 2016/17 and belonged to the World Series category . The women's squash tournament also belonged to the World Series category and was part of the women's PSA World Tour 2016/17 .

Last year's winners were Mohamed Elshorbagy for men and Nour El Sherbini for women . The men's final contested Grégory Gaultier and Nick Matthew , Gaultier won with 8:11, 11: 7, 11: 3 and 11: 3. After 2007 and 2014 , this was his third title win at the British Open. With his final victory and Karim Abdel Gawad's failure to reach the quarter-finals, Gaultier regained the lead in the world rankings on April 1st. In the women’s first all-English final since 1991, Laura Massaro prevailed against Sarah-Jane Perry with 11: 8, 11: 8, 6:11 and 11: 6 . It was Massaro's second title at the British Open after 2013 .

The field of participants in the men's competition consisted of 32 players, eight of which were reserved for qualifiers. The eight best players were seeded. In the women's competition there were also 32 players, 16 of whom were seeded. Of the other 16 places, eight were reserved for qualifiers. Per Wildcard received Declan James and Fiona Moverley a starting place in the respective main field.

Prize money and world ranking points

At the tournament, the following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who entered the main field from qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. The total prize money for the men and women was US $ 150,000 each.
