Nour El Sherbini (born November 1, 1995 in Alexandria ) is an Egyptian squash player . She became world champion in 2015 , 2016 , 2018/19 and 2019/20 and took over the world rankings for 31 months in a row in May 2016.

Career

In her junior career, Nour El Sherbini won the junior world championship against her compatriot Nour El Tayeb in 2009 in Chennai when she was only 13 years old . In 2012 she won her second title in Doha against Yathreb Adel , also from Egypt. With her third title win in 2013 in Breslau against Mariam Metwally , she became the record winner among the juniors.

She has been a professional player on the PSA World Tour since 2009 and has won 21 titles so far. With the Egyptian national team , she became world champion in 2012 , 2016 and 2018 . She achieved her best placement in the world rankings in April 2016 with second place. As the first Egyptian she reached the final of the British Open in the 2012 season, which she lost to Nicol David in three straight sets. In 2013 she reached the final of the World Cup for the first time after defeating Nicol David 3-2 in the semifinals. In the final she was defeated by Laura Massaro with 7:11, 11: 6, 9:11, 11: 5 and 9:11. In 2015 , after a quarter-final win against Nicol David, she reached the final of the World Cup again and met Laura Massaro again. This time El Sherbini got the upper hand and won, as the youngest player to date, the title with 6:11, 4:11, 11: 3, 11: 5 and 11: 8. In May 2016 she took over the top of the world rankings . At the 2016 World Cup , she defended her title with a final win against Raneem El Weleily . A year later she was in the final of the World Cup for the third time in a row , where she met El Weleily again, but this time lost in four sets. At the end of the 2017/18 season , she won the World Series Finals for the first time . In March 2019, she secured her third world title . In the final, she defeated Nour El Tayeb in four sets. At the beginning of November she won her fourth world title after a final victory over Raneem El Weleily.

Her cousin Mohamed Elsherbini is also active as a squash player.
