Raneem El Weleily ( Arabic رنيم الوليلي; * January 1, 1989 in Alexandria ) is a former Egyptian squash player . She took over the top of the world rankings for the first time from September to December 2015 and became world champion in 2017 .

Raneem El Weleily won the Junior World Championship against Joshana Chinappa in her junior career in 2005 in Herentals . Two years later she managed to defend her title in Hong Kong against Camille Serme . As early as 2003, she was active as a professional player on the PSA World Tour and won 24 titles. With the Egyptian national team, she became world champion in 2008 , 2012 , 2016 and 2018 , after having been runner-up with them in 2006. At the 2014 World Cup , she reached the final for the first time, in which she was defeated by Nicol David in five sets. On September 1, 2015, she became the first Egyptian to take the lead in the world rankings. She replaced Nicol David, who had occupied the top position for nine years without a break. Four months later she was replaced by Laura Massaro . In 2017 she moved into the final of the World Cup for the second time , which she lost to Nour El Sherbini . A year later she was in the final of the World Cup for the third time , where she met El Sherbini again, but this time she was victorious in four sets and thus became world champion for the first time. In June 2019 she won the PSA World Tour Finals after beating Camille Serme in the final . Exactly one year later, at the end of June 2020, El Weleily announced her resignation as the player still leading the world rankings.
