British Open Squash Championships 2009

The British Open Squash Championships 2009 took place September 8-14, 2009 in Manchester , United Kingdom . The men's squash tournament was part of the PSA World Tour 2009/10 and belonged to the PSA Super Series Silver category , the women's tournament was part of the WSA World Tour 2009/10 and belonged to the WISPA Gold category . The prize pool was $ 92,500 for the men and $ 53,000 for the women.

The defending champions were David Palmer and Nicol David . Both were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Nick Matthew won the men’s final , beating James Willstrop in the final with 8:11, 11: 8, 7:11, 11: 3 and 12:10. This was Matthew's second title at the British Open after 2006. The women's competition was won for the fourth time by Rachael Grinham . In the final she won against Madeline Perry with 11: 6, 11: 5 and 12:10.

The field of participants in the men's competition consisted of 32 players, eight of which were reserved for qualifiers. The 16 best players were seeded. The women's competition consisted of 16 players with four places for qualifiers. The eight best players were seeded. Per Wildcard received Jens Schoor and Lauren Briggs each a spot in the main draw.
