Saurav Ghosal (born August 10, 1986 in Calcutta ) is an Indian squash player .
Life
He studied economics at the University of Leeds and graduated with top marks in 2008. At the beginning of 2017 he married Diya Pallikal, the sister of the squash player Dipika Pallikal .
Career
In his junior career, Saurav Ghosal won several important tournaments, including the British Junior Open 2004. He began his professional career in 2003 and has so far won nine titles on the PSA World Tour . Saurav Ghosal achieved his highest position in the world rankings with rank ten in April 2019. At the World Championships in doubles he was runner- up in 2004 in Chennai alongside Ritwik Bhattacharya . In 2006 he won the bronze medal in singles at the Asian Games in Doha . For this success he was awarded the Arjuna Award . At the following games in 2010 in Guangzhou , Saurav Ghosal won bronze again in both the individual and the team. With the Indian national team he took part in world championships in 2005 , 2007 , 2009 , 2011 , 2013 and 2017 . He has been Indian national champion twelve times so far. At the 2013 World Cup , he made it to the quarter-finals for the first time in his career. He is the first Indian squash player to do this. In 2014 he won the individual silver medal and the team gold medal at the Asian Games. In 2017 he was first vice-Asian champion in singles before winning the title in 2019. At the Commonwealth Games 2018 he reached the final of the mixed competition with Dipika Pallikal , in which they were defeated by Donna Urquhart and Cameron Pilley .
