Cameron Pilley (born October 27, 1982 in Grafton , New South Wales ) is a former Australian squash player .

Career

Cameron Pilley began his professional career in 2001. From that year until 2005 he was on a scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport , where he trained under former world champions Geoff Hunt and Rodney Martin . In 2003 and 2008, Cameron Pilley reached the top 50 and the top 20 of the world rankings, with his best ranking in January 2011 with eleventh place. At the PSA World Series Finals 2015/16 he reached the final as a debutant, in which he lost to Grégory Gaultier in four sets. He ended his career in December 2019. In Germany, Pilley is registered with the Hamburg Walddörfer sports center in the 1st squash division .

With the Australian national team he was runner- up in 2007 , in 2009 and 2011 it was only enough for third place, he made his debut in 2005 . He was also on the squad in 2013 , 2017 and 2019 . In 2006 Pilley was vice world champion in mixed when he lost in Melbourne with Amelia Pittock against Rachael Grinham and Joseph Kneipp in the final. In 2019 he won the title with his cousin Donna Lobban . With Ryan Cuskelly he became world champion in doubles in 2017 and 2019 . In 2005 he became Australian champion .

At the Commonwealth Games he won several medals. In 2010 he secured bronze in doubles with Ryan Cuskelly and gold in mixed with Kasey Brown . Four years later he won the doubles competition with David Palmer , as well as a bronze medal with Kasey Brown in mixed . In 2018 he missed a medal win in doubles for the first time, he was eliminated with Ryan Cuskelly in the quarter-finals. In mixed , however, he won the gold medal with Donna Lobban.

Cameron Pilley holds the world record for the fastest acceleration of a squash ball: In October 2011, he accelerated the ball to 281.6 km / h at the US Open. With this he replaced the record of his compatriot John White of 273.5 km / h. In April 2015, he improved his record to 284.8 km / h.

From 2010 onwards, Cameron Pilley was in a relationship with the Danish squash player Line Hansen , whom he married in Las Vegas in 2015 . The couple has two children (* 2017, * 2019).
