Geoffrey Brian "Geoff" Hunt , MBE , AM (born March 11, 1947 in Melbourne ) is a former Australian squash player . He won the world championship four times .
Career
From February 1976 to 1980 Hunt was world number leader and won the world championship four times in those years . In 1981 he failed in his fifth participation in the final at Jahangir Khan . This makes the Australian one of the three most successful squash players in history. There are also eight other titles at the British Open , which he won in 1969, 1974 and from 1976 to 1981. He also won the Australian Open eight times. Of a total of 215 tournaments in which he participated during his career, Hunt won 178. With the Australian national team , he won the world championship three times between 1967 and 1971.
Hunt had to end his career due to back problems. From 1985 to 2003 he was the head coach of the squash department at the Australian Institute of Sport . In 2003 he switched to the Aspire Academy in Doha , Qatar as a trainer , where he was employed until 2013. He has been the coach of Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi since then.
Hunt is a member of the Hall of Fames of the World Squash Federation (1993) and the Australian Squash Federation , and has been a member of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame since 1985 .
