Thierry Lincou (born April 2, 1976 in La Réunion ) is a former French squash player .

Career

Thierry Lincou was the first Frenchman to be both world number one and world champion in squash. In January 2004 he climbed to the top of the rankings for two months for the first time, before he was ranked first for the entire year 2005. In the same year he also won the PSA Super Series Finals . Lincou has also been in the top ten for ten years since September 2001. He experienced his career highlight in 2005 in Doha, where he defeated his English opponent Lee Beachill 3-2 in the final of the World Cup . With the French national team he took part in 1999 , 2001 , 2003 , 2005, among others, 2007 , 2009 , 2011 and 2013 participated in world championships. In 2003 and 2009 he was runner-up in the world championship. At the European level, in 2009 and 2010, he has so far been twice European champion. He benefited both times from the task of his compatriot Grégory Gaultier . With eleven titles he is also the record winner at the French national championships . On August 31, 2012, Lincou announced his retirement from professional sport. After the end of his career, he began to work as a coach, including for the US national team .
