Karim Abdel Gawad (born July 30, 1991 in Alexandria ) is an Egyptian squash player .

Career

Karim Abdel Gawad started his professional career in 2008 and has won 23 tournaments on the PSA World Tour so far . He achieved his highest position in the world rankings with first place in May 2017. Even during his time with the juniors, he celebrated greater successes. Among other things, he won a title at the British Junior Open.

His greatest success at first was winning the title at the Al Ahram International 2016 in front of the Pyramids of Giza , a tournament in the PSA 100 category . At the World Cup that followed shortly thereafter , Gawad won the title. After his victory in the semifinals against world number leader Mohamed Elshorbagy , he prevailed in the final against Ramy Ashour , who had to retire in the fourth set due to injury. Just a week later, after beating Mohamed Elshorbagy in the final, he won the Qatar Classic and thus his first title in the PSA World Series . In the world rankings he first reached third place after his world championship title, before he was listed in second place for the first time after the Qatar Classic in December. On May 1, 2017, he finally took the lead in the world rankings. In 2017 he took part in the World Cup with the Egyptian national team and won the title with them. In the final against England , his win against Nick Matthew in the opening game gave Egypt the lead. In June 2019 he won the PSA World Tour Finals after beating Mohamed Abouelghar in the final . At the end of 2019 he defended the title at the World Cup with the Egyptian national team.
