Kurt Pawlik

Kurt Pawlik (born March 16, 1934 in Vienna ) is an Austrian psychologist . From 1965/66 he was a professor at the University of Hamburg . In 2002 he retired .

Life

Kurt Pawlik studied psychology, philosophy, anthropology (human biology), physiology, psychiatry and ethnology at the University of Vienna and graduated there in 1959 as Dr. phil. (Psychology, anthropology and philosophy). From 1960 to 1962 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Illinois , then from 1962 to 1966 again at the University of Vienna. There he completed his habilitation in 1965 (psychology) and then worked as a university lecturer at the University of Graz. In 1965/66 he went to the University of Hamburg as the successor to Gustav Lienert , where he was appointed professor to the full chair for Psychology II . In 2002 he retired.

From 1969 to 1974 Pawlik was President of the Criminological Scientific Council at the Council of Europe , 1972 to 1974 President and Vice President of the German Society for Psychology , 1976 to 1983 member of the Expert Committee on Psychology at the German Research Foundation , and from 1986 to 1990 a member of the Executive Committee of the International Social Science Council in Paris, from 1996 to 1998 also vice-president and from 1998 to 2002 finally president. Since 1990 he has been a member of the Academia Europaea .

From 1988 to 1992 Kurt Pawlik was Secretary General of the International Union of Psychological Science and was also its President from 1992 to 1996 and Past President until 2000. He is an honorary member of the Executive Committee for life. He succeeded in organizing the "return of West German psychology to the international stage" and in reducing existing conflicts and in dealing with Friedhart Klix's better representation of GDR psychology on an international level .
