Karim Darwish ( Arabic كريم درويش, DMG Karīm Darwīš , born August 29, 1981 in Giza ) is a former Egyptian squash player .

Career

In his junior career, Karim Darwish won the British Open in 1999 and the World Championship against Grégory Gaultier in 2000 . He joined the PSA World Tour in March 1999. He celebrated his greatest success in 2008 when he won four Super Series tournaments and made it to the final of the Individual World Championship , where he was defeated by Ramy Ashour in four sets. After his victory at Saudi International, he moved to the top of the world rankings in January 2009. He replaced his compatriot Amr Shabana , who had held this position for 33 months without interruption. From January to November 2009 Darwish defended the top spot before losing it to Gaultier. In December 2009 he was again in first position for a month before he finally lost it to Ramy Ashour. With the Egyptian national team he became world champion in 2009 and 2011 , after he was runner-up with them in 2001 and 2005 . In 2003 and 2007 he failed with her in the semi-finals. In 2013 he was runner-up again.

Karim Darwish ended his career on October 31, 2014. Even before his resignation, he was the sports director of the Wadi Degla Sporting Club in Cairo. He has held this position full-time since November.

Private

Karim Darwish has been married to Engy Kheirallah since December 2007 , who was also a professional squash player. The couple have a son and two daughters.
