Leekes British Open 1997

The Leekes British Open 1997 took place from March 28th to April 6th 1997 in Cardiff , Wales . The men's squash tournament was part of the PSA World Tour 1996/97 and belonged to the PSA Super Series Silver category . The prize money was $ 75,000. The women's squash tournament was part of the WSA Tour 1996/97 and belonged to the WSA Gold 50 category . The prize money was $ 50,000.

Defending champion in the men's category was Jansher Khan , who won the title again and for the sixth time in a row. In the final he defeated Peter Nicol with 17:15, 9:15, 15:12, 8:15 and 15: 8. In the women's category, Michelle Martin won her fifth title in a row. As in the previous year, she prevailed against Sarah Fitz-Gerald in the final , this time with 9: 5, 9:10, 9: 5 and 9: 5.

The participant fields consisted of 32 players each, eight of which were reserved for qualifiers. The best 16 players in each case were seeded.
