Peter Marshall (born May 12, 1971 in Nottingham ) is a former English squash player .

Career

Peter Marshall was active on the PSA World Tour from 1990 and won five titles on it in his career. In 1994 Marshall was in the final of the World Cup , which he lost to Jansher Khan . Marshall was three times English national champion (1992, 1994 and 2000). He finished second each in 1993 at the Super Series Final in Switzerland and in 1995 at the British Open . His highest place in the world rankings was position two. With the English national team he was European champion several times and world champion in 1997 . A year after his World Cup final, Marshall fell seriously ill: the diagnosis was chronic fatigue syndrome , which is why he was unable to play games for two years. Although there was a comeback and Marshall made it into the top ten of the world rankings for the last time in 1999, he was never able to build on his previous form.

Marshall attracted a lot of attention with his backhand technique, as he hit it with both hands like in tennis. This technique was very controversial, but Marshall used it with perfection.
