Derek Ryan (born December 10, 1969 in Dublin ) is a former Irish squash player .

Career

Derek Ryan began his professional career in the 1993 season and was active on the PSA World Tour until 2002 . During this time he won six titles. He reached his highest place in the world rankings with seventh place in July 1999. He celebrated his first great success in 1997 in Lahti by winning the silver medal at the World Games . In the final he lost to Ahmed Barada . Derek Ryan made more than 200 appearances for the Irish national team , including at the World Team Championships in 1999 , 2001 , 2003 , 2007 , 2009 , 2011 and 2013 . Nationally, Derek Ryan was number one for many years and is a nine-time Irish national champion .

Derek Ryan graduated from the University of Salford with a degree in physical therapy . Since the end of his career as a squash professional, he has been working as a physiotherapist in his native Dublin and on the World Tour.
