The European Team Championships for men and women in 2014 in Squash found from 23 to 26 April, 2014 in Zagreb , Croatia , and from 30 April to 4 May 2014 in Riccione , Italy instead. A total of 29 teams competed in the men and 21 teams in the women. For the men it was the 42nd edition of the championship, for the women it was the 37th. The teams divided into Division 3 completed their tournament in April in Zagreb, while Divisions 1 and 2 played their games in Riccione from the end of April.
England defended the European title in both men and women . As in 2012 and 2013, the men's teams from England, France , Germany and Scotland took the first four places. Nick Matthew , James Willstrop , Peter Barker , Daryl Selby and Adrian Grant were in the victorious English men's team . In the women's category , Laura Massaro , Alison Waters , Sarah-Jane Perry and Emma Beddoes' team prevailed against France in the final. With third place, the Czech Republic was among the top four nations at a European Championship for the first time. For England the two titles were the 39th title win in the men and the 36th in the women.
The men's German squad included Simon Rösner , Raphael Kandra , Jens Schoor , Rudi Rohrmüller and Carsten Schoor . After group wins against Denmark and the Netherlands , as well as a defeat against France, the team qualified for the semi-finals, which they lost to England. She clearly won the final game for third place against Scotland 3-0. The German women around Kathrin Hauck , Sina Wall , Franziska Hennes and Annika Wiese took third place in Division 2 and thus missed the direct re-promotion.
The Switzerland won the men's competition in the Division 2, and thus ascended to the Division 1 to the next host. Austria came in eighth. In Division 3, Luxembourg placed 27th. In the women's division, Switzerland was eighth and last in Division 1. Austria played the tournament in Division 2 and finished the tournament in 13th place. Luxembourg , which played in Division 3 for the women, finished 21st.
mode
The participating teams played in three different divisions according to their placement at the previous European Championship. In Division 1, the eight best teams competed for men and women and played for the European title. First, the teams were divided into two groups and played their games in round robin mode . The two best teams made it to the semi-finals, the rest had to go to relegation. In the second-rate division 2, the men competed a total of twelve teams in four groups of three. The group first and second met in a knockout round and determined the two promoted teams in Division 1. The four weakest teams in Division 1 determined the two relegated teams. The women's division 2 consisted of seven teams that compete in round robin mode. In the same mode, the women's division 3 was held, which consisted of six teams. In the men's division, the teams in Division 3 were divided into a group of five and four. The two best teams made it to the semi-finals, and the winners of these games secured promotion. At the tournament all places were played out.
All teams consist of a minimum of three and a maximum of five players who had to be entered in the order of their skill level. Three individual games are played per match for women and four for men. The order of play of the individual games is independent of the order in which the players register.
