The participating teams played in different groups according to their placement at the previous European Championship. In groups A and B, the eight best teams competed for men and women and played for the European title. First, the teams were divided into two groups and played their games in round robin mode . The two best teams advanced to the semifinals. In groups C, D, E and F, a total of 19 men competed in groups of four and three groups of five. After the group phase, they played the other places in knockout rounds . Groups C, D, E and F women played according to the same mode. This year these consisted of 13 teams, which were divided into three groups of three and one group of four. At the tournament all places were played out.
All teams consisted of at least three (women) or four (men) and a maximum of five or six players, who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per match for the women and four for the men. The order in which the individual games were played was independent of the order in which the players entered.
