The European Team Championships for men and women in 2005 in Squash found from 27 to 30 April 2005 in Amsterdam in the Netherlands instead. A total of 21 teams competed in the men and 14 teams in the women. For men it was the 33rd edition of the championship, for women it was the 28th edition.
The defending champion was England , whose teams won the title again this year. For the women’s team it was the 28th victory in a European team championship, for the men it was the 30th victory. In the men defeated Lee Beachill , Peter Nicol , Nick Matthew and James Willstrop in the final, the French team with 4: 0th James Willstrop won the opening game against Laurent Elriani 3-0, Nick Matthew increased the lead with a 3-0 win over Renan Lavigne . Lee Beachill won the first set of his game against Thierry Lincou , which meant the early victory. Beachill won the game, which was then shortened to two winning sets, 2-1. The final game between Peter Nicol and Grégory Gaultier also ended 2: 1. Jean-Michel Arcucci did not appear on the French side, while Simon Parke did not appear in the final for England . Third place went to the Netherlands, ahead of Wales .
The participating teams played in different groups according to their placement at the previous European Championship. In groups A and B, the eight best teams competed for men and women and played for the European title. First, the teams were divided into two groups and played their games in round robin mode . The two best teams advanced to the semifinals. In groups C, D, E and F, a total of eleven men competed in three groups of three and one group of four. The group first of groups C to F and the group third and fourth of groups A and B met in a knockout round and determined places five to twelve, with places five to eight qualifying for groups A and B meant the next European Championship. This year, women's groups C and D consisted of six teams, each divided into three teams. The first two of the group met the third and fourth group of groups A and B in a knockout round and played for the qualification for groups A and B of the next European championship. At the tournament all places were played out.
All teams consisted of at least three (women) or four (men) and a maximum of five or six players, who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per match for the women and four for the men. The order in which the individual games were played was independent of the order in which the players entered.
