European Squash Team Championship 2016

The European Team Championships for men and women in 2016 in squash were held from 4 to 7 May 2016 in Warsaw , Poland , and from 20 to 23 April 2016 in Bucharest , Romania instead. A total of 30 teams competed in the men and 24 teams in the women. For the men it was the 44th edition of the championship, for the women it was the 39th edition. The teams divided into Division 3 played their tournament in Bucharest in April, while Divisions 1 and 2 played their games in Warsaw from the beginning of May.

mode

The participating teams played in three different divisions according to their placement at the previous European Championship. In Division 1, the eight best teams competed for men and women and played for the European title. First, the teams were divided into two groups and played their games in round robin mode . The two best teams made it to the semi-finals, the rest had to go to relegation. In the second-rate Division 2, a total of twelve teams competed in four groups. The group first and second met in a knockout round and determined the two promoted teams in Division 1. The two weakest teams in Division 1 were relegated in return, the women the promotion and relegation mode was equivalent. The women's division 2 consisted of six teams that competed against each other in round robin mode. In Division 3, a total of ten men competed in two groups of five. The group first and second continued to play in a knockout system. In the case of the women, in which ten teams also competed, the first and second group were also determined in two groups of five, who determined the two promoted players in a knockout round. At the tournament all places were played out.

All teams consisted of a minimum of three and a maximum of five players who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per match for the women and four for the men. The order in which the individual games played was independent of the order in which the players entered.
