The European Team Championships for men and women in 2008 in Squash found from April 30 to May 3, 2008 in Amsterdam in the Netherlands instead. A total of 28 teams competed in the men and 19 teams in the women. For the men it was the 36th edition of the championship, for the women it was the 31st edition.
The defending champion was England , whose teams won the title again this year. For the women’s team it was the 31st victory in a European team championship, for the men it was the 33rd victory. In the men's match, Lee Beachill , James Willstrop , Peter Barker , Adrian Grant and Joey Barrington defeated the French team 3-0 in the final . Peter Barker won the opening game against Thierry Lincou 3-1, before James Willstrop defeated Grégory Gaultier 3-2 in the game of top players . Adrian Grant secured the early title win with a 3-0 win against Julien Balbo . The game in fourth position between Lee Beachill and Renan Lavigne was not played. Joey Barrington on the English side and Mathieu Castagnet on the French side did not make it to the final. Third place went to the Netherlands, ahead of Germany .
The participating teams were seeded according to their placement at the previous European Championship.
For the men, those teams played for the title that were placed in groups A to D. Only the winners of the group stage, which was played in round robin mode , reached the semi-finals. The group runners-up and third played for places 5 to 12. The group fourth played together with the winners of groups E to H for places 13 to 20, the other teams in groups E to H played for places 21 to 28. All games after the group stage there was a knockout round .
For women, the teams were placed in groups A to E, with only the teams in groups A and B playing for the title. The best two teams in groups A and B made it to the semi-finals. The other teams as well as the group winners of groups C, D and E played for places 5 to 11. The losers of this knockout round played out places 9 to 11 in round robin mode. The remaining places 12 to 19 were again played in a knockout round. All groups except for group C, in which three teams played, consisted of four teams.
All teams consisted of at least three (women) or four (men) and a maximum of four or six players who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per match for the women and four for the men. The order in which the individual games were played was independent of the order in which the players entered. At the tournament all places were played out.
