The European Team Championships for men and women in 2006 in Squash found from 26 to 29 April 2006, the Austrian capital Vienna instead. A total of 24 teams competed in the men and 17 teams in the women. For the men it was the 34th edition of the championship, for the women it was the 29th.
The defending champion was England , whose teams won the title again this year. For the women's team it was the 27th victory in a European team championship, for the men the 29th victory. In the men defeated Lee Beachill , Peter Nicol , Peter Barker and James Willstrop in the final French team . James Willstrop lost to Thierry Lincou 1: 3 in the opening game , Peter Nicol then lost 3: 2 to Grégory Gaultier . Since Lee Beachill won 3-0 against Renan Lavigne as did Peter Barker against Laurent Elriani , England secured the title due to the better set ratio. Julien Balbo did not appear on the French side, while Nick Matthew did not appear in the final for England . Third place went to Wales, ahead of the Netherlands .
In the women's game, the English team met the Netherlands in the final. Vicky Botwright gave England the lead with a 3-1 win over Vanessa Atkinson , which is why after Tania Bailey's early 3-0 win over Annelize Naudé England's title win was already certain. The last game, which was shortened to two sets, won Jenny Duncalf 2-1 against Orla Noom .
The participating teams played in different groups according to their placement at the previous European Championship. In groups A and B, the eight best teams competed for men and women and played for the European title. First, the teams were divided into two groups and played their games in round robin mode . The two best teams advanced to the semifinals. In groups C, D, E and F, a total of twelve men competed in four groups of four. The group first of groups C to F and the group third and fourth of groups A and B met in a knockout round and determined places five to twelve, with places five to eight qualifying for groups A and B meant the next European Championship. The women's groups C and D consisted of nine teams this year, which were divided into four and five teams respectively. The first two of the group met the third and fourth group of groups A and B in a knockout round and played for the qualification for groups A and B of the next European championship. At the tournament all places were played out.
All teams consisted of at least three (women) or four (men) and a maximum of five or six players, who had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual games were played per match for the women and four for the men. The order in which the individual games were played was independent of the order in which the players entered.
