In 1678 the upper floors of the bell tower burned down and in 1701 the nave collapsed. The tower was repaired in 1724. In the meantime, the nave was probably also restored, but the nave was again ailing again in 1728.

In the 1860s it was decided to build a new church, which was built between 1869 and 1870 according to plans by the Cologne architect Heinrich Nagelschmidt in place of the old church. The foundation stone was laid on June 29, 1869.

architecture

The lower three floors are square, the top floor forms an octagon. The main portal is in the basement. The fourth yoke of the nave is twice as wide as the remaining yokes. So it forms a pseudo transept, which has the same width as the nave. From the outside it can only be seen through the transverse gable and the roof turret. The fifth yoke has the same dimensions as the western yokes. At the nave of the two aisles close as termination points, two three-sided choir conclusions and in the middle of the two-bay includes choir of which also includes a three-sided choir circuit. The entire structure is spanned by ribbed vaults.

Furnishing

In the interior, parts of the neo-Gothic furnishings have been preserved, such as the high altar , the triumphal cross and the brightly painted figures of saints.

Of the windows created in 1916 according to a design by Franz Xaver Reuter, only one in the north aisle survived the Second World War . The stained glass windows of the nave were created by Maria-Veronica Heiner de Rincon in 1966, the windows in the choir were created by Wilhelm Heiner in 1961.
