Većeslav Holjevac

Većeslav "Veco" Holjevac (born August 22, 1917 in Karlovac ; † July 11, 1970 in Zagreb ) was a Yugoslav partisan commander, corps commissar and from 1952 to 1962 mayor of Zagreb, where he was responsible for the satellite town of Novi Zagreb .

Life

From 1939 he was a party member of the SKJ . During the war he was in command of various partisan units, most recently political commissar of the 1st Corps, of the Croatian "People's Liberation Army" and in May 1945 military commander of Zagreb (Agram).

In 1947 he became head of the Yugoslav military mission in Berlin.

From 1948 he was Minister for the Liberated Areas of Croatia, from 1950 Minister of Labor of the Belgrade Federal Government and then Croatian Minister of Transport. He then became President of the People's Council (Mayor) of Zagreb and finally a member of the Croatian provincial government (Executive Council) with the rank of minister. Two years after the publication of the declaration on the name and status of the Croatian written language (1967), he was forced to withdraw from political life.
