Geography and history

Novi Zagreb is located in the south of Zagreb, south of the Sava River . This puts it outside the city's historical city limits. It has about 125,000 inhabitants.

Cityscape

Novi Zagreb was built after the Second World War and is a district characterized by multi - storey apartment buildings with real socialist architecture from the 2nd half of the 20th century with prefabricated blocks of flats . There are also single-family house settlements (Pobrežje, Savski Gaj, Trokut) in the vicinity of the railroad, which emerged mainly after the Croatian War. There are also many green spaces, sports fields, service centers and some larger parks such as the Bundek in between . In the 1990s, several new office towers and the Avenue Mall shopping center were built .

traffic

The residential areas are accessed through several main roads and subordinate residential streets. The Avenija Dubrovnik runs as a central multi-lane axis from west to east. Jadranska avenija forms its western extension, which joins Autobahn 1 at the Lučko junction . Three multi-lane road bridges lead over the Sava, which flows in an arch around Novi Zagreb, in the west the Jadranska most , in the Bundek park the Avenija Wećeslava Holjevca and in the east the Avenija Marina Držića . The (Avenija) Savezne Republike Njemačke , which is named after the Federal Republic of Germany, which Croatia was the first to recognize, serves as the main north-south axis and connection to the Autobahn 3 and the airport .

Novi Zagreb is served by several tram and bus lines of the Zagreb Transport Company Zagrebački električni tramvaj (ZET).
