The Singapore squash national team is the entirety of the squash team of the Singapore Squash Rackets Association . In it you will find Singaporean athletes who represent their country in both individual and team competitions nationally and internationally in squash .

history

Men's

Singapore first took part in a world championship in 1981 . The team finished the tournament in 12th place without a win. In the following four championships, Singapore always placed in the top ten, the best placement was 6th place at the 1985 World Cup . Regular players in the 1980s were Peter Hill , Zainal Abidin , Alex Tay and Anthony Chua . In 1991 there was no participation in the World Cup. Subsequently, Singapore achieved a top 20 placement twice. At their last participation in 1997 , the team achieved 31st place, the worst result in their World Cup history. In 2019 she took part in a world championship for the first time in 22 years, but with 23rd place did not get past last place.

At the Asian Championships in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1990, the team finished second behind Pakistan . At the Southeast Asian Games , the team won gold medals in 1995 and 2017 .

Ladies

The women's team made its debut at the 1990 World Cup and reached 13th place. The team confirmed this place at the subsequent World Cup . The third and so far last participation in 1994 ended the team in 15th place.

The team was much more successful at the Asian Championships. She won the title in 1988, 1990 and 1994, and finished second in 1986, 1992 and 1998. The top performers included Mah Li Lian and Della Lee , who were also successful in individual competitions. Both won bronze medals at the 1998 Asian Games . Mah Li Lian was also Asian champion in singles four times in a row from 1988 to 1994. The team last won the gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games in 1993.
